The CasMath 1-2-3 app has been designed with the younger child in mind, not so much to teach him/her about basic number workings, but to have a bit of fun in reinforcing what they already know.

There are five categories of question, all with the intention of making the player become more comfortable about numbers, in a fun way:

Addition
Number bonds
Number sequences
Doubling
Halving

Whichever medal players are trying to win, they choose to answer a question which is worth either 1, 2 or 3 points. The higher the points available, the harder the question.

The Year 6 class, containing 10 & 11 year-olds, spoke to the younger children to see what type of number work they do and came up with the categories themselves.

If the very young schoolchild is still learning about basic number concepts and recognition, he/she can answer mostly 1-point questions in trying to win a Bronze Medal, 10pts needed from 8 questions.

When they progress to some slightly harder work, they can attempt to win a Silver Medal by trying to achieve 25pts from a maximum of 12 questions, thus having to dabble with more 2-point questions and maybe a couple of 3-point ones.

Finally, in order to win a Gold Medal, players need to gain 50pts from a maximum of 20 questions, over half the questions answered need to be worth 3-points.

Using this points system, players must work out which value questions they need to answer in order to get to their goal before running out of questions. This in itself is a mathematical exercise together with the skill of forward-planning!

I hope you enjoy CasMath 1-2-3.
